Yesterday, Connor was able to participate in his very first Pinewood Derby! He was very excited to race the car that he and Jason had spent many hours working on.
Preparation for the big day started a few weeks ago. From the beginning, Connor said he wanted a Sonic the Hedgehog car. Jason and Connor found several pictures of Sonic in his race car and then came up with a design for Connor's car, complete with "quills" on the back of the car, just like Sonic.
After several hours of work and a lot of help from Dad, the car was finished. Connor called his car Sonic Speed Mobile.
The car really looked awesome! They did a great job and Connor loved it. He was REALLY hoping to win every race. We tried to tell him that that probably would not happen, but he was still hopeful.
Well, after his car lost the first 3 races, Connor was pretty sad and a few tears were shed (he didn't want me the share that part...). In the end, he only won 3 out of 11 races.
But he did win Most Impressive Design!
On the way home, we reminded him that there was more to the Pinewood Derby than actually winning. The process of designing and making the car, spending time with Dad and having fun with his fellow Scouts was even better then winning. He eventually agreed. He and Jason are already planning his car for next year!
