Spring Break Fun

The kids were out of school for spring break for a whole week this year! In the past, 2 or 3 of the days have had to be used as snow make-up days, so we were very excited to have a WHOLE week off. Unfortunately, it was pretty cold, so we had to come up with some indoor activities. Here are a few of the things we did:

On Monday, we had a read-a-thon. Remember those? When I was in elementary school I remember bringing a pillow, snacks and a bunch of books to school for this special activity. First thing Monday morning, we went to the library so we all had plenty of books to read and then we went to the dollar store for some snacks and treats. The kids seemed SO excited about the read-a-thon, but I was pretty sure they'd only last about 20 minutes before they got bored.

Kelsey read the longest--about 2 hours, Connor starting getting restless after an hour and a half, and Parker only lasted as long as his snacks--about 20 minutes! It was a lot of fun and they've already asked to do it again some time. Who knew?

On Tuesday, we took advantage of the only nice day of the week and took our lunches to a nearby park and played for 2 hours. It was such a beautiful day and so nice to get out and play.

On Wednesday, we had some free bowling passes so we bowled a game. The bowling shoes we decided to buy last summer have been a great investment--it makes a very cheap (or free) family activity when you already have shoes!

On Thursday, we just stayed home most of the day and relaxed. It's nice to have a "nothing going on and nowhere to go day" every now and then.

On Friday, we went to the mall to look for Easter outfits. Then we ate lunch at the food court and rode the carousel. I was exhausted by the time we got home--I still can't believe I willingly took 3 kids to the mall by myself...

Saturday was the day the kids had been anxiously waiting for all week. We drove to Charlotte so we could play MagiQuest at the Great Wolf Lodge. We played MagiQuest once before in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee in December of 2009, and the kids have wanted to play it again ever since then. We had a great time playing the game for a few hours, eating lunch at Quaker Steak Lube, and then playing the game for a few more hours. We had a great time and we were so glad that Jason was able to go too. It was a fun way to end spring break!
