Mini Vacation

Last week we headed to Blowing Rock, NC for a mini family vacation. We happened to have a free pass to Tweetsie Railroad, so we decided to spend our first day there. After we arrived at Tweetsie, we rode the famous steam engine up the mountain along with some bank robbers, cowboys, and indians! 

We rode several rides at the "Country Fair", played some arcade games, and practiced our aim in the shooting gallery. We watched some very talented frisbee-catching dogs, a magic show, and fed some deer and goats in the "Deer Park".

Even though it was hot (thank goodness for snow cones!), it was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed spending the day together.

After that we checked into our hotel and then found a place to eat. We decided to try something new, so we went to Coyote Kitchen, a small family owned business, specializing in "Southwest Carribean Soulfood". It was very different and creative, but delicious. It was fun to try something new.

The next day we woke up early, ate breakfast at the hotel, and then headed out to see The Blowing Rock. Blowing Rock is the name of the city, but there is also a real rock with an interesting Indian legend.

We were pleasantly surprised with our visit to The Blowing Rock. It wasn't much and we weren't there for long, but the views were breathtaking. We were glad we took the time to visit it.

Next, we drove to Magic Mountain Mini Golf. We had a lot of fun playing golf up the side of the mountain, which is more difficult than you would think. Kelsey's ball seemed to be in the surrounding trees and bushes more than it was on the course--not sure if it was the ball or the golfer :)

Then we drove to downtown Boone, to visit The Mast General Store. They had all sorts of fun and interesting things to look at. We left with a bag full of candy, some blueberry syrup, and a gadget that Jason found that keeps your soda liters carbonated after you open them. We ate lunch at Chick-fil-a then headed back home to Winston-Salem. We had a wonderful couple of days and thoroughly enjoyed our mini vacation!
