A Super Sonic Birthday!

This kid turned 9 years old today!

We celebrated this year by having a special Sonic the Hedgehog Party. If you know Connor at all, you know that he is a very big fan of Sonic and he has wanted a Sonic party for a few years now. Yesterday, a few of his friends were able to come celebrate with him "Sonic"style. The party was set up kind of like a video game. There were 4 levels and each person had the opportunity to earn golden rings (this is what Sonic earns to keep him alive in the real video games...) during each game level.

Level 1 - "Chaos Emerald hunt"(items that Sonic often searches for in his games).
Level 2 - "Pin the Emerald on Sonic" (i.e.. Pin the tail on the donkey)
Level 3 - "Pass the Ring". Each person had to answer a Sonic question if the music stopped while they were holding the ring.
Level 4 - "Crack the Egg(man)". In pairs, the boys tried to get their opponent to drop the Dr. Eggman balloon (Dr. Eggman is Sonic's arch enemy).

After the 4 levels were completed, there was a surprise BONUS Level, where the boys had the opportunity to find the rest of the hidden Chaos Emeralds in order to earn extra golden rings.

In the end, the boy with the most golden rings won. (Of course, it was Connor, because he is a Sonic expert! We knew that would probably happen, so Connor had already decided that the winner would be the party guest with the most golden rings). His friends didn't really know a whole lot about Sonic (as I imagine most of you who are reading this blog don't either!), but they were all good sports and I think they still had a good time. Connor thought it was the best party ever, which is the most important thing anyway!
Sonic Cupcake Tower
After the games, Connor opened his presents and was very excited about everything! Then we placed 9 candles on top of the cupcake tower and sang "Happy Birthday" to Connor. He blew them all out on the first try (I wonder if he made a wish?). We all enjoyed blue cupcakes (literally) and yummy ice cream.
Party Friends
Nerf Gun Fight!
After the cake and ice cream, the boys had a great time running around in the backyard having a Nerf gun fight for a few minutes until their parents came to pick them up. I think Connor would agree that it was a great party.
Trying out the new scooter!
We did most of the birthday celebrating yesterday, but since today was his actual birthday, we made Connor's favorite dinner (spaghetti) and sang "Happy Birthday" to him again. Tomorrow I will be bringing the traditional McDonald's lunch to school and treats for his class. I guess he gets an extended celebration this year!
Happy Birthday, Connor! We love you so much!!!
